Sports Analytics Innovation Summit Report
by Jason Brown, Head of Marketing for QlickiT
Last month we attended the Sports Analytics Innovation Summit in the ExCel Centre, London. It was a fantastic two days, with field leaders offering great insight.
Rugby Football League
We were particularly proud to hear the great work of someone we have been working with closely. Jon Roberts, Performance Director for the Rugby Football League (RFL), did a great talk on the role of data in player development. In recent years he has made some great leaps for the RFL by engaging in Evidence Based Management. It was particularly interesting to see the holistic way this is affecting the RFL – from grass roots engagement monitoring to elite level performance analytics.
The sports analytics journey
Jon and the RFL are on the same journey that many of his colleagues in other sports are on. The case for Evidence Based Management is, in my eyes, won and is now just a case of getting to a the end point where it is ubiquitous. We are proud to be supporting the RFL and other governing bodies in this journey.
The conference was also great to share our experiences and hear those of others. We found that a lot of the challenges and successes we have been having perfectly mirror sports analytics on the whole. The general mood was of positivity and of determination for sports analytics to go the whole way. We feel exactly the same and are delighted to be part of that story.
